Where it all began

For as long as I can remember I have loved all kinds of stories. Before I could read them myself, my parents read books to me and my siblings, or we listened to records. At the age of five I learned reading rapidly, discovering books and comic books of increasing difficulty. Going to the library felt to me like entering a magical palace. Soon it became a habit to secretly read with a flashlight under the bed covers long after my bedtime.

One of the children books that inspired me most, was the lovely ´Matilda´written by Roald Dahl. I could recognize myself a lot in the character of this young girl. Like Matilda, I felt somewhat as an outstander and misunderstood at school and later in my own home. Just like her, I found a safe haven inside the wonderful world of books. Unfortunately I could not use my mind in the same fantastic way as Matilda could, but still this book was very comforting to me. I read it several times and I would want to read it again soon.

“So Matilda’s strong young mind continued to grow, nurtured by the voices of all those authors who had sent their books out into the world like ships on the sea. These books gave Matilda a hopeful and comforting message: You are not alone.”

Roald Dahl, Matilda

My hope for you is that you may find shelter and joy as well in favourite books of your own. I hope that this message may resonate loudly in your heart and mind: You are not alone.
